A project I have done that I feel would be important to redo is an artist’s book I created while taking WRT 211 during my sophomore year. The poem that I wrote for the book was about my experience of being a woman and how that interacted with my day-to-day life, titled Is Punk. Since then, I have come out as genderqueer, and would love to take the original premise of the poem and rework it. I have both fallen further into my punk identity and grown more comfortable in my own skin, two changes I believe would make for a beautiful update to the original work.
The most memorable work I have done is for the Painted Book course, an in-depth course about transforming a book into a full art piece over the course of a semester. The book was decorated inside and out, and I devoted much of my free time to the designs. I think the most memorable part of this would be the peace I felt working in the art studio late at night- art has always centered me, and being able to combine that with my passion for poetry on many of the pages was a fantastic outlet for me that I would love to recreate.
Work I wish I could do over would be the vignette assignments for my ENG 300s while in Morocco. I was not a fan of the professor, and therefore did not put in much efforts to the writing, only doing enough to complete the homework. Unfortunately, this meant I don’t have much writing that feels important or worthwhile from my time abroad. While I would not be able to re-experience my semester in Africa, being able to revise and rewrite the vignettes would give me the opportunity to redo these works to my standards, and write them out of passion rather than simple duty.
