The concept of beauty in and of itself has always fascinated me. I have always been intrigued by the ways in which we all experience beauty- no one ever perceives the same things as beautiful, nor in the same way. I appreciate the way in which the colors of a sunset bleed together, the was in which the dark blue of the night sky hits the pale yellow sun. A meteorologist might look at it and see the gases of the atmosphere, the way the breeze moves the clouds, the signs of the forecast for the next day. These are the symbols of beauty for them, a scientist in love with the weather patterns of the earth. Beauty is determined by so many things. Scarry talks about hemispheres- she grew up in the northeast and never considered the beauty of a palm tree from the southwest until she looked it face to face.

Beauty is subjective and no one will ever have the same opinions. We may agree from time to time, but eventually we will part ways and you will find my beauty ugly or vice versa. The thing about beauty is that we all find it separately. We all come to our own version of beauty, in ourselves, in others, in the world, and we all love better for it. Finding the beauty in the world is a global connector- and, perhaps, there is beauty there- and though we may not all agree on the same beauties, we all believe in and love their existences.
