For this revision, I am going to be rewriting the original poem “Is Punk” and creating a new artists book to house it. The poem was originally about how my existence, particularly my womanhood, was a punk aspect of my life, but I would like my new artists book to reflect the personal growth I have achieved since that fall.

Since then, I have come out as gender-queer, and the poem “Is Punk” no longer accurately reflects my identity. I am not a woman, but something more complex, and something I feel is far more counterculture. I have grown to be comfortable with myself and my identity, and I want to make a new piece of art that showcases this.

While I will certainly be revising “Is Punk” as the main poem, I may also write additional poems to be part of the book as well, representing other aspects of myself.

The book will feature a linocut I am in the process of designing and carving of the transgender symbol, which will be present on the front and back covers. The book will be hand bound with string, and the cover will be black with the symbol in red.
